School Applications are now OPEN!

Applying for a place in a school needs to be carried out at various stages of a child’s education. The stages are Pre-Nursery, Nursery, Reception, Infant to Junior Transfers and Secondary School. These applications need to be made in advance, up to a year before your child is due to start in their new academic year.

There are certain times in the year where you will be able to apply for a school place, and the application window is now open! However, there are different opening and closing dates depending on the age of your child. There is a handy table below which will tell you when you will need to apply. You are able to choose up to 3 schools in order of preference.

Applying is easy to do using an online portal which will accept all types of school admissions applications apart from:

• Special School applications. Please contact SENAS Team on 01443 744000.
• Voluntary Aided and Controlled (Church Schools) applications. These must be made directly with the school.

Pre-Nursey Admissions

For children who turn 3 between 1st September 2023 to 31st December 2023:

• Online applications from 1st September 2023 to 30th September 2023.
• You will be notified of the outcome on 10th November 2022.

For children who turn 3 between 1st January and the 31st March 2024:

• Online applications will be accepted from 1st January 2024 to 10th February 2024.
• You will be notified of the outcome on 15th March 2024.

When applying for a pre-nursery place you will be able to apply for a place at a School or Registered Education Provider. If your child is allocated a part-time (15 hours) pre-nursery place or were not able to obtain a pre-nursery place at all, you may be able to apply for the 30 Hour Childcare offer, which can offer free childcare to working parents and carers of 3-4 year olds.

When applying for a pre-nursery place you will be able to apply for a place at a School or Registered Education Provider. You may also be eligible to receive additional funded childcare, on top of the pre-nursery education place, via the Childcare Offer for Wales.

Nursery Admissions

For children who will be 3 years old before 1st September 2024.

• Online applications from 1st of September 2023 to 10th November 2023.
• You will be notified of the outcome on 16th April 2024.

Reception Admissions

For Children who will be 4 years old before 1st September 2024.

• Online applications from 1st of September 2023 to 10Th November 2023.
• You will be notified of the outcome on the 16th April 2024.

Infant to Junior Admissions

For pupils leaving Year 2 in an Infant School at the end of Summer Term 2024. Please be aware, you do not need to make this application if your child is in a Primary School.

Online applications from 1st of September 2023 to 10th November 2023.
You will be notified of the outcome on 16th April 2024.

Secondary School Admissions

For pupils leaving Year 6 at the end of Summer Term 2024.

• Online applications from 1st of September 2023 to 13th October 2023.
• You will be notified of the outcome on 1st March 2024.
